Things to Do Around Macungie, PA
Why spend winter stuck inside your own home? Rather, use the cold weather as an excuse to get out and explore the indoors (and outdoors!) of some wonderful attractions in the Macungie area. Your next free afternoon, try checking off one of these experiences off your to-do-list.
Check Out Some Vintage Cars at the America on Wheels Museum
The main reason to head to the America on Wheels Museum in Allentown is to check out its amazing selection of vintage automobiles that range from some of the first cars ever made to early models of electric cars. The museum isn’t strictly limited to cars, however; you’ll also find other wheeled vehicles on display here, such as trains, tractors, and motorcycles. If you get hungry during the visit, you can grab a bite to eat at the HubCap Cafe, which is appropriately modeled after the soda fountains of the mid-1900s.
Hit the Slopes at Bear Creek Ski Resort
There’s probably no activity more suited for winter than a day out on the slopes. Thankfully, Bear Creek Ski Resort is within close proximity, with multiple trails and even a terrain park for more advanced riders. You need not have perfect balance to visit Bear Creek, either, as the park also has a tubing course. Bear Creek is also home to the popular Spa at Bear Creek, perfect if you need a little relaxation after a long day of winter activities. Don’t worry too much if you miss out on the ski season, as Bear Creek is also open during the warmer months for activities such as hiking, disc golf, and tennis.
Taste a Sip of Mead at The Colony Meadery
If you fancy a night out on the town, there are plenty of breweries in the Macungie area where you can whet your whistle. But how many of them can claim they carry one of history’s oldest beverages? The Colony Meadery in Allentown can. The Meadery isn’t your average brewpub, offering a selection of award-winning, honey-fermented drinks to try in their tasting rooms or to have bottled for later. The Colony Meadery has a second, smaller location inside Bethlehem’s Moravian Book Shop, which claims to be the oldest continuously-running bookstore in the world. Books and a fine drink – does it get much better than that?
Catch a Bike Race at the Velodrome
When you think of bicycling, you might imagine having a casual ride through the park. Not so at the Velodrome at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Breinigsville. The Velodrome hosts bicycle races that are fun to watch and appropriate for the whole family. And we’re not talking average races, either – the Velodrome is one of the most well-respected bicycle racing arenas in the country, and it regularly hosts national championships. While you might be hard pressed to catch an event during the dead of winter, the Velodrome is also home to a cycling hall of fame and a handful of cycling-related programs you can participate in while you wait for the season to start up again.
